Romain Dumas, the virtuoso of motorsport
Romain Dumas is used to racing of all kinds, even if his track record is more evident in Endurance than in other disciplines. The native of Alès participated in the 2019 edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans with the DUQUEINE Engineering team. This meeting seemed to be natural for DUQUEINE and Romain Dumas. Romain Dumas' beginnings in motorsport are, like many drivers, associated with karting. From 1992 to 1995, he learned at the wheel of a karting before switching to single-seater in 1996.
Formula Renault, Formula 3, Formula Palmer, and finally Formula 3000, Romain Dumas will have touched a good number of different single-seaters during his journey. He will even carry out a test with Renault F1 Team, just back in the discipline in 2002, as well as a test in Champ Car in 2004.
During his single-seater years, Romain Dumas began to participate in endurance races and began a series of participations in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2001 which he continues today. He became an official Porsche driver in 2003 after multiple very good results in the biggest endurance races in the world. In parallel to Le Mans and after these last tests in a single-seater, the French driver left to race in the United States and participated in the American Le Mans Series from 2004 to 2008 on the famous Porsche RS Spyder LMP2.
The Alès driver acquired an impressive track record during the years 2000 - 2010. ALMS 2007 champion, multiple victories at the 24 Hours of Nürburgring, victory at the 24 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps and many other awards will make him a driver of international renown.
The year 2009, Romain Dumas evolved on the side of the manufacturer Audi after the end of the Porsche LMP2 program in the USA. This arrival is marked by his victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans 2010 after a 2009 edition of discovery. At the same time, while winning the 24 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps and the 24 Hours of the Nürburgring again, he had fun in Rally and won many podiums in national rallies.
2012 marks the year of the first French participation in Pikes Peak, the largest hill climb race in the world. He finished second after the rain slowed him down the upper part of the route. The revenge appointment was made.
In 2013, Porsche returned to the LMGTE category in the FIA WEC. Romain Dumas then returned to his favorite manufacturer and won the same category at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, while preparing new projects with his own RD Limited structure.
After his good results in 2013, Romain Dumas was propelled into LMP1 at Porsche, which began its return to the top category. Several racing victories and a surprising first place at the 24 Hours of Le Mans 2016 will reward his efforts.
The week after his first place at Le Mans, Romain Dumas flew to Pikes Peak where he scored his second victory at the wheel of a NORMA car. He continued with a third victory in 2017, still with his own team and in NORMA.
In 2018, Romain Dumas joined Volkswagen to try the Pikes Peak adventure again, but this time behind the wheel of the Volkswagen ID 94, an all-electric prototype. With the conditions in place to shine, Romain Dumas erases the electric record and the overall climb record and becomes the race record holder.
The year 2019 sees its collaboration with the German manufacturer continue but he is not insensitive to the participation of a team from his hometown to the 24 Hours of Le Mans and he joined the DUQUEINE crew composed of Pierre Ragues and Nicolas Jamin driving the Oreca 07 N °30.
