1st victory for a NORMA car in Daytona
This weekend was the first round of the 2020 season of the IMSA Prototype Challenge championship as part of the Roar Before The Rolex 24 in Daytona. This very first race of the year was won by Forty7 Motorsports, a team entering two NORMA M30 LMP3 prototypes!
The Team Forty7, title holder of the championship, dominated the race despite the bad weather on the ground and stiff competition. The brand new crew of the N°47 composed of Joel Janco, JJ Jorge and Kyle Kirkwood won in front of the twenty prototypes enrolled (including eight LMP3 NORMA M30 cars).
Forty7's No.47 triumphed across the finish line in front of another NORMA M30, K2R Motorsports's No.64. The day before, N°64 was in pole position at the start of the three-hour race.
The N°64 crew made up of Matt Bell and Naveen Rao finished in second position after a very good recovery in the last half hour of the race, going from fifth to second position, 8.8 seconds behind the victorious NORMA M30.
“This is my third race in the LMP3 category and the first in a NORMA. We did tests in December, but this is the first time we have pushed the car to its full potential. I quickly got used to it and my driving style matches the car. For me this car suits me more than any other I have ever tried!”
Kyle Kirkwood (NORMA M30 N°47)
“It was unexpected! We are extremely honored to have won the race. The team and my teammates were impeccable. Forty7 was amazing, we made no mistakes and we had the fastest car. This victory is above my wildest dreams!”
Joel Janco (NORMA M30 N°47)
DUQUEINE and its NORMAs at the top of the ranking
This victory is the first of the NORMA M30 in Daytona but also the last. In fact, as of next season, the NORMA M30s will be able to benefit from the update kit which will make it possible to transform them into DUQUEINE D08 and respecting the new international regulations concerning LMP3 knowing that it is already applicable in Europe. Teams may also choose to purchase a new DUQUEINE D08 chassis directly.
DUQUEINE Automotive starts the year brilliantly, the NORMA M30s demonstrate their high level of performance by signing the 2 best qualifying times and positioning two of their LMP3s on the podium of this first meeting of the IMSA Prototype Challenge. DUQUEINE Automotive has drastically increased its level of service on all American circuits and the good results of the various crews is the best proof of this.
